So what are we actually going to do? We’ve called it an “Elemental RollerCoasterCoast”.
Next August we aim to cycle the 837.2 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats swimming the longest lake in England enroute, which at 11.23 miles is Lake Windermere.
Why this challenge? We wanted to choose an adventure that would be equally challenging for both of us. While we have both come to love running, trekking and the outdoors in general – we each have one little phobia… Georgie happens to have an irrational fear of cycling (poor balance and spatial awareness makes it pretty terrifying!) and Alice is terrified of open water (the unfortunate side-effect of a hyper-active imagination, belief in sea monsters etc.)!
When we came up with this idea – on a sizzling walk in the midst of the summer heatwave, on the day we found out that our Dad’s cancer was terminal. We clearly weren’t thinking that clearly and thought the best thing would be for each of us to have to face our fears head on!
I hope to join in the cycling but will walk around the lake…
That would be fantastic Catherine!!!
But if you skip the lake you are missing the best bit 😉
Hi Sarah, Georgina and Alice – 23 hours and counting, this is SO exciting! I have no doubt this is going to be an incredible adventure for you all. The money you have raised just goes to show what one can achieve with some determination, hard work and positivity. Good luck. God speed. Bike hard and swim efficiently and I look forward to hearing all about it. All my love. Laura xxx
Wishing you all the very best on your journey. Hope you find miles and miles of smooth roads, lots of downhill gradients, following winds and calm waters. Take care and enjoy the ride. Love to you all, Bernard & Gillian
